  • Giant Canadian Wolves

Sportsmen need to refrain from complaining about the wolves chosen for release in the Northern Rocky Mountains. I was a guilty of this, myself, when I wrote, “The Wolf Pulled Over our Eyes”. There are several reasons why sportsmen need to stop making this argument. A gray wolf is…a gray wolf. The difference is the [...]

Blind acceptance of this kind of USFWS declaration is rural stupidity. We’re talking about insects here. Will a man get a year in jail for killing a bee? The reintroduction of wolves to the northern Rocky Mountains has been a contentious issue from the beginning of negotiations. The process was started in 1987 with wolves finally being released into Yellowstone National Park along with selected are of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming in 1995.

Defenders of Wildlife agreed to not litigate delisting of wolves once certain population numbers were reached. Defenders of Wildlife along with other wolf activist groups have not honored the agreement they made challenging every effort to delist wolves from the Endangered Species List. Wildlife agencies now estimate wolf numbers to be at least 5 times the objective population agreed to prior to reintroduction.

Wolves are Recovered

According to scientists involved in the Wolf Recovery Plan from the beginning, wolves are recovered and have been for many years. Delist Wolves simply wants wildlife management removed from the Federal Courts. Courts are not wildlife managers. Wildlife should be managed by wildlife biologists. Furthermore, wildlife should be managed by wildlife biologists at the State level.
